Then you said, "You feel that everyone should pay their fair share of taxes, right? Yes?" He replied, "<Sniff...sniff...> WHat do you consider "fair share", and where is this going?" You then prattled on, "...... I know what you'd do. You'd make the 15 minute drive to avoid paying more tax. Don't tell me otherwise. You're just like Kerry." Hmmmm, looks like you are wrong, Joe. And I don't know about Mass, but in Illinois, they have started checking to see if you filled out your ST-55 every year now. You are supposed to declare stuff you bought out of state and pay state sales tax on it. Also, it is now IMPOSSIBLE to buy a car if you live in CROOK County without paying CROOK County taxes on it. Even the Indiana and Wisconsin dealers have the paperwork now. The state is so desperate that it's checking declarations on US custom forms for stuff your bringing into the country and sending you a tax bill for that. In theory, you're even supposed to declare the gas and cigarettes you buy out of state. Yeah, like anyone ever really does that. That's where Nobama the Bungler gets his ideas about taxes from is from Illinois' crazy system. Charles Grozny

A successful band would be a business for tax purposes, the probability that an individual could be caught, OTOH, is remote in the extreme. The States are trying desperately to collect taxes on interstate Internet sales, for example, and aren't having a lot of luck, unless the company is high profile enough to become a big target. A tool company I buy from for my machine shop is in a neighboring State and they collect sales tax for my State on each sale. Bill Smith |
