well, if it's rolled strip, it's a good deal more likely than if it's
the "ductile iron" that our single-celled "hunter" was previously
referring to. the japanese are quite good at producing fatigue
resistant vacuum de-gassed strip product, better than we are arguably,
so that would make more sense for a chassis component.

That's wouldn't be my advice. The US Department of Commerce doesn't post
where different companies get their materials. Nor does it post what
products a particular batch of steel goes into. Those would be
considered trade secrets. If I am wrong, all you have to do is post the
URL of the site.

Actually, I just go to the Science, Industry and Business Library at
34th and Madison. Just a few short subway rides away.
