Sometime in the late 60s and early 70s. It was very viable for what it
got used for and that was never a design criteria. It was designed and
built to be an interceptor, not a rocket platform.

Yep. The units I was in were flexible in their strength. It varied by
the number of ACs that needed pilots, maintenance crews and support
staff.
