The AARP was in favor of the healthcare bill, they are in the insurance
business selling those very expensive medi-gap plans.

The majority of the members of AARP, on the other hand, were apposed to the
bill and from what I read, hundred dropped their membership their in the
AARP as result.

I had an AARP medi-gap plan for about six years back in the nineties. I
switched to a Blue Cross Advantage plan and saved over $120 a month.

Somebody's got to pay for the wars (actually, police actions) and the
insane paranoia on the Canadian border. You think this *its's FREE??

The taxes are part of the health care bill.

The AARP supported the health care bill because it was a net positive
for seniors, even though Medicare Advantage is going to be cut eventually.

OTOH, the AARP is not the political organization it once was. It has
become a marketing organization selling high-price car insurance and
property insurance to people that don't know any better. I'm not
retired, but as soon as I turned 50 they started mailing me stuff. I
joined for one year (free membership through Walgreen's). What a joke.
All the products they promote are a rip-off, _especially_ the insurance
products. We pay far less for auto and homeowners insurance that the
companies they are affiliated with charge. Any other discounts they
offer are no better than similar discounts available from other
organizations that don't charge for membership.
