I've ruined only ONE transmission on a Toyota. That was a 1501 K40.
Supposedly all that needed to be fixed was a 50 cent cotter pin or
something, but there was only one Toyota dealer in 50 miles, and I didn't
trust him. He was the goofus that tried to sell me a ring job at 48,000
miles with NO proof. And part of that cotter pin breaking is my fault.
Driving home 17 miles from Mississippi 3 times fully overloaded with
leftover expired Mississippi license plates for my license plate collection.
(Took me 3 trips to move all 8000+ plates) I drove home on the back roads,
but I did drive in 4th gear most of the way and 4th gear is what failed. In
those days 1 box of 50 Mississippi plates weighed 23 lbs, so you figure I
was running 1300 lbs of plates plus 200 lbs of me in a car with a 700 lb
load limit with each load. (I didn't find out they weighed 23 lbs/box until
later.) Ahh to be young and stupid again. . . .
