We had to do it too. I was the last one out of the gas chamber. It was
fun watching everyone puke.. Because I didn't panic and waited, they
let me out faster and I just drooled a LOT (kinda like JSB does all
the time) ..

I don't know whay on earth anybody would want Recirc all of the time, but I
agree completely that the vehicle operator should be making the choice to
Recirc no matter where he has selected the air to blow out of. For that
matter, the driver should select whether or not the AC is on, or not -- my
F150 insists on turning the AC on for any setting other than Panel or Floor.
If I mix Panel and Floor, the AC is on. If I want fresh air but not blowing
directly on me, I might choose Defrost, but this forces the AC on even if I
don't want it. As the driver, I know that the AC makes Defrost work better,
but just because I select the air to blow on the windshield does not mean I
need to defrost the glass. Just because I make a selection that isn't Panel
does not mean I want the AC to be on.

Recirculate is a function that the driver should have full control over in
any of the various settings of the climate control system. AC is also a
function that the driver should select, not the car. While I would never
select Recirculate as the default mode, I suppose some would make that
selection, and that's why the engineers should not be making it.

Sorry, rant over.

Okay, the rant isn't over yet ...

If the pesky engineers are going to make a decision that I'm too stupid to
do by myself, it's that the climate control fan should never ever be
allowed to be switched OFF. Air should always be moving within the passenger
cabin, whether it's recirculated or fresh air, the driver should choose. I
choose fresh, but your mileage may vary. I like one feature of my F150, the
fan has four speeds, and no OFF. Now if I could just pick the other stuff
....

Actually, the climate control system as a whole has an OFF setting that I
never use, but the fan speed control has 4 settings, none of them are OFF.

Now the rant is over.

Only if you're driving ahead of him and he has Recirc ON.

If it combats your navy bean soup while he's ahead of you, you should put
the windows down, and definitely switch away from Recirc in your own car. .
