From: Devil's_Advocate on 14 Mar 2010 01:12 I was looking online at one of the newer Corollas and noticed an air cleaner listed as a feature on one. Is that inside the car, for the passengers? Is it anything serious, or just a dust filter? I keep an Austin Air HM200 seatbelted in my back seat, with an inverter. Helps some.

I am not sure what you mean by "serious." They claim to remove pollen and other particultes. I've not seen much of an advantage to them, but I don't have any significant alleries. I know they do something becasue after a year they are full of trapped "stuff." However, it seems to me so much stuff comes in on your feet, or through open windows, they are never going to be more than partially effective. From: ron on 14 Mar 2010 13:40 they seem to me to be pretty dirty in about a year - I change them in the spring and use the electrostatic ones - probably better for small particles than the foot borne larger ones. BUT there is still some dust on the dash etc..
From: homepc on 14 Mar 2010 16:28 I have a 2007 Corolla CE and it has a Micronair air filter behind the glove box. If you check around you'll probably find an auto parts store that stocks the OEM model made for your particular vehicle. http://www.micronair.com/en/index.php I found mine at Partsource for 58% less than what the dealer would charge to replace the filter. Just make sure it's a Micronair and not some third party knock off. Even with the cabin air filter I've found that my dash board still gets a little dusty; however the dash board air vents remain very clean. I have to park my car under a birch tree. The seeds falling during the fall resemble wheat germ. My old Tercel used to blow out these seeds inside the car all winter long. The air filter inside my Corolla has stopped any debris like this from entering the ventilation system. A lot of the stuff that makes me sick while I drive, is gases, not just particles. The HM200 that I adapted for the car, has 7 lbs of charcoal and other gas adsorbing stuff in it. It helps about 50%, being there's no good way to really seal the car up better. ( that I know of ) I've not seen much of an > advantage to them, but I don't have any significant alleries. LOL We dont ever drive with the windows open, for the very reason that we get very sick, very fast, from exhaust emissions. |
