From: fruit jar on 8 Mar 2010 21:56 I called my dealer today to schedule a 30K service. They wanted to know if I could leave it as it would take 3.5 hours for the services recommended by the Shop Manager. I said no THANKS, I would go with the Toyota recommended tire rotation, oil change and air filter and minor checks of all for a 4 wheel drive. Do all dealers try this?

Did you ask what they would do or if you could make an appointment and wait for the car? My dealer typically asks for half a day regardless of the service; allows him schedule flexibility. When I say no, I want to wait, then we set up an appointment and an oil change takes 30 min. Sure, I say no to unnecessary work when the dealer wants to make a boat payment.

Do you know a reputable independent mechanic?

Like Joe says, go to an independent - probably save about half - However - make sure they use Toyota parts. |
