Ok, I started actually going out and looking for a Corolla these past few
days, and drove a couple.

Like I said here before, we've had the '93 Dx wagon since 1995 and it's
great. It gets 28-35 MPG, and has nice pickup too, a wagon. Has 190k miles
now.

But we need a second car for our business, for tax purposes, to keep
separate from our personal car. So I've been sort of keeping my eye out for
about a year now, but we've reached the point where we need to buy one.

So Friday we looked at a 2000 plain Corolla ( not wagon ) with 114k miles.
It wasnt as zippy as the wagon, and didn't seem to run as well.

Then today we looked at another. This one was a 2001 Corolla S. The S
apparently stands for "sport". It has a sun roof. Whoo hoo! BUT it's
smaller and I'm 6' tall and there was about a half inch between my head and
the roof of this car. I was afraid that if I hit a good bump driving it, I
could break my neck and be killed or paralyzed. And when I stepped on the
gas, it hesitated and waited for me to step more, then moved. And it had
nowhere NEAR the pickup that our wagon has, even though the engine is 1.8L
EFI in BOTH! A sport sedan with about half the pickup as my old wagon!

What is THAT???

So is it just that later Corolla models aint so hot, compared to the 93's
or what?

Are there better or worse years, is that what we're seeing here?

If so, what are the better years for these, going back from around 2000, to
about '93?

I notice you cant even find the 93's anymore. Barely anything older than
98's out there. Are people keeping the older ones?

With these newer electronic odometers, can dealers tamper with them and lower
the miles on a car?

Not very easily, especially if the vehicle has changed hands a few times and
the mileage at ownership transfer reported to the state.
