Oh good then.

On Monday we wound up buying a 2002 Corolla LE with 114k mi, automatic, air
and cruise, for $4900 total ( with tax ) after taking it to the mechanic
and finding out it needed about $575 in maintenance work ( nothing serious
) and some new tires ( neither here nor there as far as negotiating ).

Before that, the total was $5200 so we feel like we did ok. The car runs
beautifully and is in very nice overall condition.

We really didn't want one that new, were looking more for the 1993-2001
range, but they're scarce around here, we'd just seen a couple that werent
in such great shape, this one seemed like a nice deal.

Got it from a broker, a guy who apparently buys them at auction because the
dealers dont like to mess with anything that they cant sell for at least
$8k. So he has lower overhead than a dealer too. He works from an office
park setting instead of the big overhead of a commercial car lot.
