From: Kenneth on 11 Dec 2009 09:59 Howdy, Well, it's winter again... And, as in the past, the sliders of my Sienna freeze shut. I have invested in a tanker truck of silicone, but it seems to do next to nothing to solve the problem. What might you folks suggest? Sincere thanks, -- Kenneth If you email... Please remove the "SPAMLESS." Clean the painted surfaces that the door gaskets contact. When it warms up, apply some car wax to this area. Spray the silicone lubricant on the door gaskets and wipe the area with a paper towel to spread the lubricant. You have to do this at least once a year. While you are at it, spray the latches (I think there are 2 for sliding doors) with GM Heat Riser Manifold lubricant, Lock-Ease, or bicycle chain lube so that they release more easily. -- Ray O (correct punctuation to reply)

If #1: Spray some Armor-All or similar product onto a rag and wipe down the molding. These products usually say to not let them come into contact with paint, but since the molding touches painted surfaces with the door shut, there's no way around it. So fugettaboutit. If #2: Try white lithium spray instead of silicone. It's thicker & tends to stay in place better, but it won't freeze. |
