It can be a (usaully) weather phenomenon that is likely to occur with reasonable regularity around a specific set of circumstances (like calendar date) It can be a self improving artifical intelligence It can be a point at which an (mathematical) object is undefined or a point in an exceptional set where it fails to be well behaved in some particular way.
