Damn. That was an interesting read. Seems, "We don't know what causes it,
and we don't know what 'cures' it" (since there doesn't appear to be a
cure...).

Hmmmm.....

BTW, thanks for the input. To be honest, the way the doctors were talking,
it didn't appear to be that big a deal!

The dr that did the colonoscopy said it was minimal, and he's not even
really sure if it's Crohn's because of the way it looked.

But I have had some of the symptoms, and there was one more the nurse
asked about when I went for the reults of the test, and that is, she asked
me if I had any pain in my eyes! Why, yes! It kind of feels like when
you're first getting a toothache...

Interesting.

Are you referring to the "tobacco smoke enema"?

I had actually heard about those before...

As for the forums, you know what they say, "Be careful what you wish
for...". I had been wishing for more work...

Yeah...got home at 8:50...

Wrong approach Hatch (last paragraph).

Most of the people I have met and/or spoken to about their
colostomies/ileostomies have been most happy 1) to be alive, 2) to be
living pain free for the first time in like 15 or 20 years (except for
the wee ones), 3) to be LIVING . . . It can be a life saver and a life
giver. If your diagnosis is confirmed, contact those folks from CCFA.com
and find out where you can find a Crohn's/Ulcerative Colitis support
group up in your neck of the woods, and speak with some if those people
who have colostomy/ileostomy pouches as a companion, and see how many
would/will trade places with the way that they were. How do I know so
much about this? I was diagnosed with cancer or the bladder in Aug '87,
went the route with 2 months of chemo, endured 39 radiation therapy
sessions that left me with a lasting legacy, and ended up with a radical
cystectomy along with other organs or pieces of me, and have worn a
urostomy device for 21+ years (since Sep '88). Know what? It is as
natural this way now as it was the other. Not a damned thing to be
ashamed. Evreyone I have known since who came down with bladder cancer
and who hasn't had it handled this way is dead and can't speak with me
anymore. And through assiciations made locally as well as nationally
through support groups, have met many colostomates/ileostomates. I've
belonged to support groups ever since and am now a moderator in a
urostomy health group with Yahoo with a small membership from the USofA,
UK, and Canada. The wearing of an appliance is the absolute last thing
to be concerned about. Actually there is a fairly eye opening list of
celebrities past and present, who wore or are wearing those 'bags' and
few people know about it. I'll see if I can dig it back up and send it;
you know, people like Dwight David Eisenhower was an ostomate. You would
be surprised at the Who's Who of 'bag' wearers.

Prednisone long term usually screws up people, but does so in differing
ways. Most everybody I have met can almost be picked out with certintude
because they were blown up like blimps. It does add weight. And many
folks end up with nasty arthritis problems. The nasty side effects
listed in this thread haven't been problems with those I've met, but they
are also side effects of numerous other types of medications. That's
something that must be worked out between the patient and the doctor, but
as a patient, you would be well advised to maintain the control over your
treatment. Just learn what you need. Crohn's is a life changing
condition for most people. If I can, I'll get a guy here in the
Pensacola area who has lived with a colostomy for probably 25, 26 years
(or even more since he has had it since he returned from Vietnam, but I
can't recall when that was) and he has absolutely no problems with it,
include no requirements for special diet. It is manageable. And you can
always hope that the doc is wrong.

We had a guy I was working with (in his 70's) that was driving deliveries
for the CarQuest store. They got rid of our old beaters and got us a fleet
of brand new Rangers...nice trucks. The guy with the bag got into a pretty
bad accident with his...I won't go into details what happened with the
bag, but I'm glad I didn't have to clean that truck!
