Prednisone should be a LAST option. It causes liver damage and will
sap your energy and strength. Don't take it AT ALL if you can avoid
it. !!!

I was given it ONCE. Took it for a day and threw it away. Google the
side effects of this stuff. Very scary. But YMMV...

Prednisone side effects
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an
allergic reaction to prednisone: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling
of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you
have any of these serious side effects:

problems with your vision;

swelling, rapid weight gain, feeling short of breath;

severe depression, unusual thoughts or behavior, seizure
(convulsions);

bloody or tarry stools, coughing up blood;

pancreatitis (severe pain in your upper stomach spreading to your
back, nausea and vomiting, fast heart rate);

low potassium (confusion, uneven heart rate, extreme thirst, increased
urination, leg discomfort, muscle weakness or limp feeling); or

dangerously high blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision,
buzzing in your ears, anxiety, confusion, chest pain, shortness of
breath, uneven heartbeats, seizure).

Less serious prednisone side effects may include:

sleep problems (insomnia), mood changes;

acne, dry skin, thinning skin, bruising or discoloration;

slow wound healing;

increased sweating;

headache, dizziness, spinning sensation;

nausea, stomach pain, bloating; or

changes in the shape or location of body fat (especially in your arms,
legs, face, neck, breasts, and waist).

This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call
your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side
effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

you got some real good advice! Like I said before, and as echoed by all the
others, get the diet FIRST - her dad had COPD/emphysema along with the
Crohns and was on prednisone for both and it was hard on him. (wife is an
RN by the way) when we brought him to live with us, he'd had second bowel
surgery and was 96 lbs! We had him back into 140 range in about 3 years but
diet was also a problem if he ate wrong thing - he loved fresh tomatos but
the seeds would tear him up

I'll have a look into this, I was reparing a computer for a girl studying
to get her registration (RN, that is) and when I mentioned Crohn's she
said, WOW! Why? She said that can be pretty debilitating...

Wow, indeed. I'll borrow Scott's gun, with ONE round before I have a
colostomy bag...!!!
