Not a good idea. Ask any collector and they will tell you to change the
oil TWICE a year, even if you drive only 3,000 miles a year.

The reason is the products of combustion are acidic and the bearings will
become acid pitted sitting in that acidic oil, over time. Simply starting
the engine can wipe a pitted bearing.

Twice a year, WBMS. A few quarts of oil are a cheap investment in a
$4,000 engine

That's fine, if you do not expect to keep it long. My oldest car is a 1941
that is currently not driven more than 1,000 miles annually. The car is
far too valuable, well over 100K, to take it on the highway much any more.
At 54,000 miles, had I followed that advice, I would have needed to do some
engine work by now ;)

thanks all,

that Acidic thing is enough to scare me.
i certainly don't want engine problems.
i believe the manual, or a friend said 1 year max.

i must hesitate somewhat because of the $50 oil change.
i splurge on some things, and then get stingy with others...
oh well

They have improved oils, metals and machining a lot since 1941.
