I respect the advice of the regs on this board when it comes to cars
(and in many cases politics). So, I was wondering what vehicle would
you all buy if you HAD to buy a NEW one today that fits YOUR
budget...? I like to keep on on what is on the market in case I have
to make a decision in a matter of days or weeks.

I've read some posts about mazda on here a while back. I forget who
said what. But it got me curious, so I checked them out. . I really
like the mazda 3s 5 door for 2010 and 2011. I guess that would be my
choice (and in my price range) if I 'needed' a car NOW.

I 'did' like the Kia forte, until I kept reading review after review
on the poor ride quality, comfortwise. At my age that's a biggie.

Honda Fit.

Fits my budget...that's the rub. Just outside my budget is the Honda
Crosstour, everything I need, but when you order up the AWD option you're
up to $34,000. WAY TOO MUCH for an Accord.

Then there's a Subaru Legacy Wagon. Already has AWD, just about $23,000.
Not bad.

For a few pesos less, there's the Imprezza wagon (not the WRX
version...that brings up into Crosstour pricing again).

But, Subaru's 'legendary' reliability comes into play; as long as you
maintain the daylights out of it (belts, hoses, etc) and you DON'T get one
with a congenital tendancy to blow head gaskets AND get one with a good
transmission, you'll have a good car. The Imprezza fits my work life quite
nicely, it's sporty enough, but after that it's a bit too small.

If Toyota would come out with a few AWD wagons, or bring back the Japanese
style vans that they sell almost everywhere else, that would be an option.
But they don't, and the Matrix is too small for some things.

Not bad. A little small, but not bad!
