Hello all--I've got a 2006 Tundra Double-Cab and will soon be adding a
pop-up camper that will probably weigh about 1,000 lbs. loaded up. The
dealer is recommending SuperSprings to enhance the rear suspension. Any
comments from users?

Thx, Grumps

Yeah - ask him what sort of commission he gets on the sale.

Your truck has a listed cargo capacity of 1635 lbs. As long as you don't
exceed this weight there's no need for any suspension mods. Be sure to
include your weight, the weight of any passengers and other cargo, and
gasoline at ~6 lbs per gallon.

Well....(1) that listed "cargo" capacity includes everything
including a full tank of gas, the driver, his lunch and his dog.
Don't believe it. (2) Even within the GVWR, it is good to get the
truck level. There are several types of helper springs. Those
SuperSprings are probably OK. Lots of folks like Timbren rubber
springs. Roadmaster Active Suspension is also well regarded. Air
bags can be added. I think I'd go with the Timbren rubber springs.
As always, check prices. Local independent shops are likely 2nd
cheapest. Doing it yourself is cheapest. Or have a buddy
help...give him coffee during the job and hold the beer back until
the job is done.

Thanks for the comments. I have ordered SuperSprings. I asked several
other Tundra owners, and sounds like the SuperSprings are the most
popular and do a good job. They apparently especially help out with the
corner sway.

If you're trying to minimize corner sway, get a sway bar -- that's what they're
made for. Hellwig makes a good one.

I've got a Sequoia (Tundra frame, but way higher center of gravity). Comes with
stock sway bars, and the sucker corners like it's on rails (at least, compared
to my old Taco).
