I ran up against the wall where the scan tool that us mere mortals buy does
not give the information needed. I took the car to the mechanic with the
scanner that connects to the Data Link (not the OBD II connector), and it
had loads of information. He said that there's a vacuum leak somewhere. He
also said the secondary smog pump had a problem, OR that the motor had been
started with it disconnected. In any event, he cleared the computer of the
stuff that OBD II didn't know about, and he's gonna flush my transmission
and replace the Reverse Solenoid on Wednesday, and read the computer again
and start fixing stuff on the list from there.

I have a cheapo basic OBD II scan tool. When I need to know voltages, I
break out the multi-meter.

Watch out when the guy tells you to replace the muffler bearings
