I saw that on TV too, but the bottom line is that CR is convinced that the
Lexus SUV is a Don't Buy. I think that had the driver not steered into the
slide, the SUV would have been on it's side. CR thinks of what real-world
drivers are likely to do, and they think the Lexus would have rolled had the
test driver driven as most of us would drive. Basically, CR says that most
of us would make a radical adjustment to the steering and cause the roll
over conditions, and the Yaw Control is supposed to counter by applying
brake to one side and gas to the other, and this did not happen.

Given the space available in a roadway situation, that SUV would not have
fared well at the hands of most drivers, and this is what CR is concerned
about. Cleary the test driver overdrove the yaw control system. Just because
the car did not roll does not mean the yaw control did its job.

Somewhere along the line, we went from government protecting us from
exploding gas tanks to making sure that cars can't be tipped over if we
swerve beyond the limits of physical science.

While it's nice if we can defeat the laws of physics, or exploit those laws
to our advantage, is it a function of government to do that, or should
manufacturers try to do it because it gives them an edge over the others?

Hey, Mike, if you follow this newgroup, you know I like Chrysler minivans.
I was impressed when my wife bought the first one, a '92, in 1994.

Problem is, I just can't seem to get away from '92s. I bought another one
in November. Number 4. I like them because the rear is like a truck and
you can pack them full. The new ones have gotten back to the boxy style of
the old ones, so I'll wait a few years and get an '09 or so.

The 96-200X models were too 'rounded' in the interiors for my use.

Why on earth would I need a control for Swedish matches on any vehicle? And
why is anyone driving a vehicle so hard that it wants to act like a dog and
roll over?

Charles Grozny

PS, what does a Swedish match say when you light it?
