For anyone else out there with a Prius. When I took mine (manufactured
prior to Jan. '10) in for its ABS recall glitch to be fixed, I also asked
for the Reverse beeper to be switched from continuous to one initial beep.
Ahhhhhh... much better! Why one earth the continuous beeper is even there,
I can't fathom. It's an interior-only beep; & if I put the car into reverse,
then step on the accelerator, I -do- sort of expect the car to back up...

Also, asked them to change the auto-off 30 sec. delay default on he
headlights to immediate off. The Prius has auto-off headlights, but
unfortunately no daytime running lights nor auto-on full lights. So... I
just leave them on. (I'm one of those people who, sans auto-on lights,
sometimes forgets to turn on the lights if the parking lot is well lit, &
then winds up driving down the streets w. no lights. Arghhh.) But that
defaut 30 sec. delay prompts people to let you know that "your headlights
are on." Having them switched to "immediate off" solves that very minor
problem.

I wish the owner could just program these options - which don't affect the
running of the car in any important ways - via a menu on the digital dash
display.

How?? I've looked - re: the dash items/menu, I've read (& re-read) the
manual - didn't find any mention/evidence re: DIY.
If you know how to do it, reply with the info, please. This would allow me
to make any other little adjustments in the future w/out making a dlr. appt.

Cathy

P.S, Why would you turn off the passenger seatbelt beeper? (Unless you have
stuff that weighs as much as a person on that seat - which would trip the
beeper.)

IOW, you don't remember? Those "obscure button pushes on the dashboard"
must be *really* obscure, to fool around with the displays a lot (moi) &
never find thsoe options.

Well, the seatbelt reminder beeper would eliminate the need for you to tell
them. It's not in the same league as the reverse beeper since A) it
actually serves a logical purpose! & B) it shuts up as soon as the seatbelt
is engaged.

Top-posting, since this post is long & I don't really want to trim it.

Anyway, thanks, but... I just checked on PriusChat (where htmlspinnr had
posted) & turns out this doesn't work on the 2010 - dealership needs to do
the modifications, after all.

Maybe. But I don't quite understand why Toyota doesn't just program in a
menu for the driver to easily access, to adjust these sorts of settings
(lights - elapse time for interior & headlights, reverse beeper, etc.-
nothing that would render the car illegal or unsafe) to individual likes;
people would love that. I doubt if that sort of deal would raise the
purchase price enough to preclude it.
