From: Joseph Wind on 29 Jan 2007 17:58 Had the same exact problem on my 86' 22R. Revved up fine in park, but when put in to drive it started knocking like a diesel at speeds above 35mph. I thought it was the transmission, it's an Automatic, BTW. Someone suggested replacing the CAT after it barely passed SMOG. Worked like a charm until one of the chain guides broke and had to rebuild the entire timing assembly.
