From: jan siepelstad on 19 Sep 2009 12:52 I sometimes have problems with the oil level light in the dashboard. It lits up when the motor is getting quite hot (like in traffic jams) although there is enough oil level in the motor. Attention: I'm not talking about oil pressure light, but about oil level light. At my Toyota dealer they tell me I have no sensor anymore, since the oil pan (is that the right word? I'm not a native English speaker) under the motor has been renewed and the new type doesn't have the sensor anymore. But the dealer can't explain why the control light lits up now and then. I think they just doesn't know. Anyone knows where to find it? Zwerius Kriegsman (from the Netherlands)

If the light comes on there are a few causes: bad sensor. bad oil pump. blocked pickup tube in oil sump. too light a grade of oil. Do you change the oil with the proper grade at recommended intervals? If yes, Does the car leak oil? If no, Check the oil pressure sensor. It could have some gunk in it. That's the cheapest solution. If that doesn't work, pull the oil pan and check the pickup tube. Clean it if needed. If that doesn't work, the front of the engine has to come off because it's the oil pump. In the U.S. there has also been a problem known as sludge buildup and the Toyota has been repairing cars with the condition. I don't know about Europe. But it might be worth a call to the "Regional Representative" if the dealer doesn't have a clue. The light should not come on, and if it does, the car should not be driven. Cheers, MD
