From: Tony Young on 14 Apr 2007 23:05 Hi, I have a 2000 Sienna with 95K miles on it. When replacing my timing belt, my local mechanic also suggested to look into the water pump. He said the same labor can be used to fix the pump as well if it is also worn out, and hence I can save money in labor. Is it common practice replacing a water pump when replacing a timing belt? Please share your experience. Any help is appreciated. Tony
From: Joseph Myers on 14 Apr 2007 23:30 Yep, good idea, did mine that way, also check front seals.
From: Paul. on 16 Apr 2007 20:59 Replace the water pump. I replaced my Highlander timing belt at 101,000 miles and the water pump just started to leak from the tell tale drain. The water pump definitely would not have made it to the next timing belt change. Paul. From: K. Shelton on 18 Apr 2007 10:00 Your mechanic told you right. If another mechanic wants to charge twice for the same labor to remove everything to access the water pump, scream. In any case, always renew the water pump no later than every other timing belt change. I'd also renew any tensioner and pulleys every other belt change. The cam seals also need periodic renewal, maybe at this time. Tony Young wrote: > Hi, > > I have a 2000 Sienna with 95K miles on it.
