From: Hachiroku ハチロク on 12 Aug 2010 16:56 Hello...hello... T of G changed owners a few years ago, and the last service manager left. He knew that my Mom's Camry had a complete exhaust replaced, but all the new SM can find is two muffler replacements. I thought (1986 Camry) this was a one piece assy....? Is there any way to trace what has been replaced on this car? I know Honda has a central computer system, and you can bring any Honda into any dealer in North America and find out what has been done to the car since it got in the country, but I don't think Toyota has any such system.

Toyota did not have a central computer system, and dealers could use various systems such as EDS, Reynolds & Reynolds, etc. T of G was a rather late adapter of computerized repair orders. That has probably changed now, but it definitely was not the case in the 1980's or even early 1990's. Is there a copy of the receipt in the glove box? -- Ray O (correct punctuation to reply)

That was my first thought! No, there's about 12 registrations (except for the current one, of course!) and a flyer from about 10 years ago from the Polish church... My stepfather kept impeccable records (the original Bill of Sale and the window sticker are there) but the exhaust was replaced after he passed away.

OK. I hope I'm not going to have to get into an arguement with a Factory Rep! ;) Toyota is not as 'customer minded' as they used to be in the 'good old days'. I blew a diff in my '74 Corolla at 15,000 miles and the rep said, "Fix it". Now it seems Toyota tries to run from fixing things. BTW, see a post in r.a.t about Scion tCs. I mentioned the head bolt issue in the early 2.4L engines. I will be expecting a fight over that for sure.
