From: msrdude on 24 Apr 2010 02:36 I have a 96 corolla and I want to replace my power steering fluid. I am not sure if this is the proper way to replace the power steering fluid but you take a turkey baster and suck all the fluid out of the power steering reservoir. Then jack up the car and turn the steering wheel all the way left and right. Then suck the fluid out of the reservoir again. keep doing this until there is no more fluid in the reservoir. Add new fluid in and turn on the car. Keep adding in until the reservoir is full. Turn steering wheel left and right and add more fluid if needed. I no i need dexron III fluid for the power steering fluid. Just want to know if this is the right steps to replacing the fluid. If not, what is the proper way???

From: Mike Hunter on 24 Apr 2010 12:54 MAWB, Place the return hose securely into a gallon receptacle. Then pore new fluid into the reservoir, while someone slowly turns the wheel from lock to lock, until the fluid runs clean. You will need about two quarts. From: Mike Hunter on 24 Apr 2010 12:58 A proper preventive maintenance regimen suggests replacing the P.S. and Brake fluid, every three years or 50,000 miles, WOF.. Of course you will disagree. If not, what is > the proper way??? Mike Hunter gave you the straight dope: Lift the car, take the return hose and put it in a large jug. You may have to use some vaccum line or fuel line to make it reach. With one person turning the wheel, add fluid. You can do it all by yourself, just don't let the reservoir run dry!. Do this until the fluid runs clear. Then fill the tank and turn the wheel a couple more times. Now, lower the car until the front tires JUST touch the ground, turn the wheel about 5 times lock to lock, top off and repeat until the reservoir stays at the full mark. You're done! I did say to have the engine running, right?
