From: Hachiroku ハチロク on 7 Jun 2010 14:51 I finally had to pull a battery I bought from Toyota. It finally gave up the ghost. You'd think they could make these things to *LAST*, but it's "last" day was Saturday. I mean, really! I just bought the thing in 1999!!!!!!!!!!

I had one Yuasa for 7 years and traded the car, original battery with 244,000 miles on it.

Exide does not own Yuasa. We buy Yuasa batteries at work (smaller sealed 12V lead acid). They come from either Japan or China. Maybe Exide Battery Corporation does not claim Yuasa as one of it's brands (see http://www.exide.com/portal/server.pt/community/brands_community/212 ). And if you look in the 2009 Exide Battery Corp Annual Report (http://files.shareholder.com/downloads/XIDE/935654348x0x310082/2d6fe586-e0ea-4478-9ada-bab1323455dc/Exide_2009_Annual_Report_with_10-K_Wrap.pdf ) they say the following: "The Company believes that it is one of the significant participants in the global motive power battery market. Competitors in the Americas include Crown Battery, Inc., EnerSys, Inc. and East Penn Manufacturing. Competitors in Europe include EnerSys, Inc., Hoppecke, and MIDAC. In Asia, GS/Yuasa, Shinkobe, and EnerSys, Inc. are the primary competitors." > I had one Yuasa for 7 years and traded the car, original battery > with > 244,000 miles on it. Battery life is very dependent on how the battery is treated. My sister never kills a battery (I think the battery in her old car lasted 12 years). My son kills one a year (or more). My sister has never killed an alternator. My son has killed two in the last 4 years. I kill a tractor battery about once every other year (leave on the sprayer controls, or the lights, or something). If you do that three or four times, you can kill the battery for good. Heck I once had a battery fail while I was driving across the field. I hit a bump and the damn thing when open inside somehow - zero volts. Never saww that happen before (or since). Ed

Yuasa was sold by General Battery Corporation to Exide Corporation in 1987 to form Yuasa/Exide Battery Corporation. Yuasa/Exide then purchased Exide's Industrial Division to become Yuasa Inc. in 1991. After selling off its industrial division to Enersys in 2000, Yuasa Inc. changed its name to Yuasa Battery Inc. In 2004, Yuasa Japan merged with Japan Storage Battery to form GS Yuasa Corporation. Now the top powersports battery producer, Yuasa provides nearly 90% of the batteries used in powersport vehicles in North America.[1] > "The Company believes that it is one of the significant participants in > the global motive power battery market.
