After watching the workings of your "Select Committees" on TV, I would
touch one with a disinfected barge pole. It's like throwing people to
the lions, where every word is picked over for any inference even those
not intended.

My sneaking suspicion is that this is mostly politicians putting on a
show for the television viewers and that most of the real business is
getting done elsewhere in a more effective way.

In general I am in favor of televising all government proceedings so
that people can see where their money is going, but sadly it seems to
make a lot of people act like idiots when they are on TV.

Many cities do that for their council meetings but I don't think it
draws many viewers.
