In what specific ways do **YOU** believe the White House and unions are involved with the idling of Toyota factories, as described ONLY in the article you posted? Below is the text of the article you posted, in its entirety. ===================== Toyota Idling Texas, Kentucky Plants to Cut Inventory Tuesday, February 16, 2010 Associated Press Toyota says it plans to idle production at assembly plants in Texas and Kentucky while it grapples with massive recalls in the United States. Toyota spokesman Mike Goss says a plant in San Antonio, Texas, has scheduled production breaks for the weeks of March 15 and April 12. Goss says a plant in Georgetown, Ky., has scheduled a non-production day on Feb. 26 and may not produce vehicles on three more days in March and April. He says Toyota is adjusting production so it does not build up too much inventory for dealers. Toyota has recalled 8.5 million vehicles around the world to address problems with gas pedals, floor mats and brakes. Toyota says its workers will be retained and will receive additional training. =====================

Truck sales in general are in the toliet, and the Tundra is now the oldest design in the segment. In my opinion, even when new, the current Tundra was a weak entry in the field. Now it is weak and old. I don't think it should be a surprise that they might need to idle that factory. I suppose the Kentucky plant slow down may be related to the unintended acceleration complaints since it builds Camrys. But the fact that the current Camry is one of the oldest designs in the mid car segment can't be helping. Accord sales were up alot more than Camry sales were down in January. So maybe the UA concerns pushed a lot of potential Camry buyers into Accords. On the other hand, maybe it is just the general lousy economy I know I'd like a new car, but I'm not willing to go out and get one now. Maybe next year. Since Toyota said they were not laying anyone off, how is it that you are claiming the feeding frenzy is putting a lot of people out of work? I saw an article the other day that talked about how dealer service department were pulling in a lot of extra revenue becasue of all the recalls. I guess there really is a silver lining to most clouds. If you are a Toyota technician, this is probaly a big pay day. I suppose if you are a Toyota salesman, you might be looking at moving over to the Honda store around the corner. Ed
