So they were blaming floor mats and owners, including those
unfortunate enough to lose their lives. Now it's because the throttle
mechanism sticking. It should be clear that only US models ran away,
like only US models sludged up. It's a design problem.

"WASHINGTON — In what was described as the largest such move ever by
an automaker in the United States, Toyota said today it had halted
sales of eight models of its cars and trucks that account for more
than half its U.S. sales until it could find a fix for sticking
accelerator pedals under a safety recall."

Is it?
From what I'm hearing they do not know WHAT the problem is IF there
really is a problem with the car itself.
That's why they have stopped assembly.
They need to find a DEFINITIVE answer as to what is causing the
(relatively low number of, and as yet "unconfirmed") throttle sticking
problems.

Getting one to misbehave in the hands of a competent technician or
engineer so they can confirm and analyse the problem is the first
step. Then the need to come up with a fix and PROVE it is a solution.

Could take some time.
