I used to live there for awhile. At first I thought Texans were merely the braggarts, that were at the time, a stigma to the rest of the country. But in time I realized they knew how to get things done without Washington barging in to show them how things should be done. Peculiarities are several and are just that but the eastern press will let the rest of the country know how "un-eastern PC" they are. Texas couldn't care less most of the time. When unemployment raged under Jimmy Carter, Texas invited the unemployed to come to Texas where they were doing just fine. A lot of them did and are still there. Happy as clams. It appears that whatever Texas does, the eastern establishment doesn't much like it. Perhaps it's why the Texans that decided to join the union reserved the right to split Texas into 5 different states if they wanted to. The country is bigger now though but that right is still there for them and it would upset some apple carts even today. I guess the moral is "Don't mess with Texas".
