From: Sanders Kaufman on 18 Feb 2010 05:59 http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/business/6872458.html As stories come out, one after the other, about production and design flaws in Toyota vehicles, Congress is launching a series of investigations to find out what went wrong. Mostly, they want to know the extent of any crimes committed in covering up safety hazards. When the Republican governor of Texas heard about the federal investigation, he began lobbying congressmen on behalf of the Japanese corporation. In lobbying Joe Barton (R, TX) he warned the Congressman to be forgiving toward Toyota because Toyota puts a lot of money into Texas. Ignoring complaints that the brakes on new Toyotas don't work right and have been killing people, Perry said simply that "motorists, workers and taxpayers need Toyota to continue". If forced to build safe cars, the Republican says that "thousands of Texas families will suffer". In all fairness, Gov. Perry DOES want safe cars on the streets. But more than that, he wants to reassure Republicans that he will NEVER support the US government - not even when lives are at stake. Thus - Perry is now lobbying congress to give Toyota a free pass, and to let them continue to make unsafe cars that kill innocent Americans.

There is no killfile for the Toyota NG. If you want to stop discussion about the Republican governor lobbying Congress on behalf of Toyota, you'll have to find another way to do it.

As little use as I have for Rick Perry, he is right. #1, Toyota does not have a brake problem that is killing people, so he is right to ignore those claims being as they have no basis in fact that I have seen. |
