From: Guy Goldich on 9 Nov 2008 22:57 Have a 97 RAV4 with 150k miles. Recently I have notice a new noise coming from the front end. Starts at 45 mph and can be described as a low-pitched wuh-wuh-wuh type of noise or thumping. It is in time with wheel speed, I believe. It does not occur when the steering wheel is in the neutral, straight-ahead position. But any slight rotation of the steering wheel away from straight-ahead, to either side, will elicit the noise. Slight vibration in steering wheel can be felt. Wheel bearings? CV joints? Ball joints? Something else?

Ball joints? Something else? Lots of possibilities but you might try tapping the brakes while it's doing this. If the noise stops, then maybe it's in the brakes. Good luck. Al

From: Rastamon on 14 Nov 2008 16:54 The sound you described does sound like Wheel bearings, but I can be too sure since I've never opened a front axle of a RAV4. Does it have 4WD?
