From: Nerd on 4 Sep 2008 00:01 '93 Camry V6 XLE. Just recently, when I shut off the car, the power antenna will not go down, but I can hear the antenna motor running. After 30 seconds or so, it will give up. While the antenna motor is still running, if I start pushing down the antenna by hand, it will go down on its own. With that being said, when I start the car, the antenna will go back up, but I can still hear the antenna motor running for a while after that. Do you know what with the power antenna system is probably wrong or bad? Thanks.
From: johngdole on 4 Sep 2008 00:55 rockauto.com shows two parts. It's not clear if the lower cost one is just the mast for the powered type or just a fixed mast. Check with the dealer, you should not have to replace the motor unit. I've changed the power antenna mast on a '96 Camry and a 2001 4 Runner. How easy or hard it is depends on where the mast is broken. If you remove the nut on the antenna and the old mast comes shooting out when you turn on the radio, with no pieces left inside, then it's very easy to put in a new mast. You can buy them at Autozone, specifically for the Camry, for about $20. Pay attention to which way the toothed side of the linear plastic gear faces when it comes out so you put it in the right way. If the pieces of the old mast (linear plastic toothed gear) remain inside the motor assembly then you have to remove the motor assembly and open it up and clean out the broken bits, then replace the assembly and insert the new mast. On the 4Runner this was a pain in the butt. I didn't have to do it on the Camry, but it looked a lot easier with the antenna there in the trunk. |
