From: Dan on 4 Nov 2009 00:43 been to the dealer twice on a strange noise coming from underneath the truck, passenger side towards the rear. rattle thump and it typically happens when up or dowm hill from a stop then start forward. Toyota cant locate the problem but did a "lube drive shaft" drives great otherwise. but seems to be more so after the "service"2001 tac prerunner with 134k miles. had the trans replaced @ 100k. any one else developed a noise like mine? tks

He lubed the u-joints, slip joint and adjusted the brakes and the clunk went away--- for awhile.<g> Some say it is because the springs allow the rear axle to rotate or wrap which causes the slip joint to bind up until you let off of the brakes. Very annoying, but truck drives great. Dealership inspections turn up nothing as usual.....Again, kind of a rattle thunk grind then goes away within a few seconds. I,m the original owner, bought it new in 01 and have maintained per the manual. Any other ideas? tks
