The last few nights I've seen a Toyota "apology" ad running on the
local TV stations. I am not sure if it is a nationwide, or just a
regional ad. They ad implies that Toyota stopped building and selling
car so that they could concntrate of repairing Customer's cars. From
everything I have read in the press this is a bold faced lie. As I
understand things, NHTSA had to threaten Toyota with a forced recall
before they would even admit there was a problem. Once Toyota decided
that the latest problem was with pedal assemblies, they had the pedal
assembly supplier start buidling new assemblies that were shipped to
the Toyota manufacturing plants so they could restart produciton.
Other parts were shipped to dealers so they could repair unsold cars.
Finally, after the manufacturing plants and dealers were given parts,
a half asses fix was created for Customers and those parts are now
trickling into dealers . I checkd with a couple of Toyota owners and
no one has gotten any sort of notice from Toyota. One guy called the
dealership where he purchased his car and was told they would let him
know when they had the parts to fix his car. Another local dealer ran
an ad saying they would repair any Toyota regardless of where it was
purchased, which sounded good, but when called, they said they had run
out of parts but would be willing to install the fix as soon as they
got more parts (apparently they are coming in daily).

Am I wrong about this? Did Toyota in fact start repairing Customer
cars before they restarted production at the factories? Did dealers
fix Customer cars before fixing unsold cars on the lot? I know the
local dealer has "fixed" cars for sale and I know not all Customers
that want their cars fixed have had them fixed....

Dealers NEED to sell cars, it costs them lots of money just to open the door
to the dealership every day, of course they would "fix" their own cars
first. I don't blame them

Car dealers lie. Like Toyota and its dealers tout the so called superior
retail value of Toyotas yet on average pay you less than wholesale for your
Toyota when you trade. ;)
