My friend just bought a used Corolla and doesn't know which "type" of
Corolla it is. Apparently there are 4 sub-models, the CE, the S, the LE, and
the XRS. How do you tell them apart? There's nothing written on the car, in
the manual, on the title or anywhere else that we can find. It's a 2006 if
that makes a difference.

I believe that the S, LE, and XRS have badges identifying them as such on
the trunk lid, while the CE has no markings.

Your friend could also try the Toyota Customer Assistance center at
1-800-331-4331, give the customer relations person who answers the phone the
17 digit VIN, and ask for the vehicle model number and factory options.

You will find that in the VIN number

Right next to the code where it shows the percent US content?

According to Wikipedia, there is no specific code for that sub-model of
cars used by Toyota since 1996.

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Vehicle_Identification_Numbers_%28VIN_codes%29/Toyota/VIN_Codes

Obviously, Wikipedia can be wrong.

But, if you call Toyota, they should be able to tell you more info. In
addition, if you have the original paperwork, it should be there, too,
on the window sticker.
