From: olivia on 24 Mar 2007 19:30 I have an Automatic 4-cylinder Toyota Camry 2002 and suddenly the light that illuminates the gears (in the middle of the front passenger seats) has stopped working. although it is not much of a hassle since I can still see the gears in teh front dashboard panel but it is inconvenient. My feeling it that it might a fuse that has caused that light to turn off. I was able to open the fuse box and there are coded indicators regarding which fuse belongs to what, it is not clear which one is for this light. Also, I am not sure hoe to find out if the fuse needs replacement. A bad bulb is another possibility. I was wondering if anybody has seen this problem before. If so, I will really appreciate any feedback. Thank you very much. Olivia

Just the bulb. Personally, I wouldn't bother with repair. If you release the button on the side of the shift lever, Reverse to Drive hits the lockout, so no danger of shifting into another gear. That means if the car moves forward, you're in Drive, so the light is unnecessary. I wish the Reverse light would burn out also. Every time I back up and see a red light on the dash it makes me nervous. Like Charlie Brown with Lucy's football, I continue to be fooled every time. Might be helpful if the indicator lights showed the automatic gear position, including over drive.
