Since coming to Pa from Florida in May my 01 camry has been leaking
more than the usual oil. I know it needs a front main oil seal. But it
usually didn't need more than a half a quart between changes, if
that.

So, for the last 6 months it's been leaking more than that by 2 or 4
times. Today I finally took the time to do a visual underneath and
above. And I noticed an oil trail from under the oil filter.
Apparently I didn't tighten the oil filter enough when I changed the
oil before my 1200 mile trip up here. I change the filter ever other
change. I was able to turn it another half turn by hand.

Prior to this, at about 70k miles I drained the differential fluid
without replacing it with the trans fluid and drove it like that for
about 1200 miles or less, now this. I'm at 160k miles. If I'd have
been so careless with an 'merican car I'd be on my next one or 2.
It's nice to be able to be so distracted and still have a ride. Thanks
Toyotya..! Takes a beating and keeps on going.

Good to know I'll be able to make it to 180k and get the oil seal
done with my routine timing belt work.

You don't work on aircraft engines,... do you?

Those are engines where you don't have a problem until it stops leaking ...

Thanks I'll do that. I wonder if I took the filter off with a full
pan of oil will very much come out. I'll do it sooner if I can get
away with it. Where it's sitting on the car it just looks like what's
in the filter will only come out.

If I was a tech , I'd fire myself. Toyota has me spoiled.
