Some vehicles were reported to have had that problem, but there were others
that had NO mat at all. There were also reports of idiots putting a rubber
mat on top of the standard Toyota mat. Doh!

I've used rubber mats on top of standard mats for 45 years. NO PROBLEMS.
Maybe YOU like having your upholstered mats saturated with mud--I DO NOT.

So why not take out the carpet mats and just use the rubber mats?

I really like the weathertek style fitted mats. They are very thin,
molded to the shape of the comaprtment and don't move around at all.
It seems to me they are the best alternative to protect the OE carpet.
I keep the carpet mats in the trunk for special occasions.

I had heard they had fewer than 10 compliants.
