From: earl on 11 Nov 2007 05:01 Interested in buying a 2007 or 2008 Camry in US and importing into Canada. I realize that this is not a necessary step but I would like metric to appear as primary measurement on speedometer display and odometer. Toyota dealer says it requires a $1900 replacement of instrument cluster. Does anyone know if there is a cheaper way.
From: Phill on 14 Nov 2007 06:15 If I were you I would look at having a stick-on vinyl overlay made for it. You would still need to remove the instrument cluster and remove the clear front and needle, apply it and re-assemble. Only other alternative would be a 2nd hand unit from a metric country. I'm not sure if you can get metric ones over there but they would be available here in Australia, and I could find out the price and post you one. Cheers, Phill. earl wrote: > Interested in buying a 2007 or 2008 Camry in US and importing into > Canada. > > I realize that this is not a necessary step but I would like metric to > appear as primary measurement on speedometer display and odometer. > > Toyota dealer says it requires a $1900 replacement of instrument > cluster. > > Does anyone know if there is a cheaper way. >

You get used to converting from mph to kph for a few key speed limits (40, 50, 80, 100) and you don't even think about it after a while. (or so I've heard from other importers; I plan to import a US Subaru in the Spring)
