That's a sobering portrayal of McChrystal. He seems like a good general,
thinks before he acts and such. Why would President Obama send him to
Afghanistan, then think twice about the troop levels his General is asking
for?

Seems the President is playing politics, or playing TO the politics.

Your interpretation, as always, is one which suits your NEEDS, and may not
have any relationship with reality.

I said MAY NOT.

What are you talking about? Not the story you posted, that's clear.

What's YOUR interpretation?

I didnt get any assurances from anyone that I would be given any amount of
time, McChrystal said. I didnt get any assurances from anyone that I
would be given any amount of resources. I didnt ask for any assurances.

For a moment, McChrystal paused.

I dont feel like the lonely man in the arena, he said, with all the
pressure on my shoulders.

A good article! I am usually pretty skeptical of anything that currently
comes out of the NYT, this was well done, IMHO.

I personally doubt we'll ever achieve a suitable outsome. I know a couple
of people that worked on Tarbela Dam in Pakistan in the 60's, I've not seen
either in a few years but their comment then was that nothing had changed in
Pakistan from when they were there.

Nothing appears to be changing in Afghanistan to me either.

Lets either do it right OR declare victory and leave. I believe the 10 year
outcome will be the same either way.
