I recently discovered a small lump right next to my anus opening. it's
uncomfortable and sore, yet not really itchy or terribly painful at
the moment. i've just noticed it there for about a week now. i haven't
had any troubles going to the bathroom...in fact it seems i'm going
quite a lot now that it hurts to wipe! i'm thinking this is a
haemmorrhoid but i have no idea. i've never had them before. What do
they look like?

It might be you need to wipe better, and have a bit feces stuck there.
It sounds like you may have anal cyst (a collection of fluid).

And instead of calling your doctor of medicine, you decided to contact a
different MD, doctor of motors.

Why don't you ask your doctor? That is what they get paid for. Asking a
bunch of mechanics what a hemorrhoid looks like or for medical advice
isn't the best move.
