From: Bob on 29 Jan 2010 07:28 Hello, Was thinking of buying a new Corolla, but... Question: is it true that those vehicles that have a J in front of their VIN number, and presumably made in Japan, are not subject to the recall ? Their gas pedal assembly is of a different design, manufactured elsewhere, or...? If you could put my mind at ease on this, and provide a few details, would be most appreciative. Thanks, Bob

This is according to NBC news. I would check with the dealer, but the Corolla has not been added to the recall.

If the Corollas don't have a NO SALE sign on them, feel free.

Correct. Japan-built cars have Denso-made pedal assemblies. > > Their gas pedal assembly is of a different design, manufactured > elsewhere, or...? > > If you could put my mind at ease on this, and provide a few details, > would be most appreciative. > Only cars that were built (or that may have been built) with older CTS pedal assemblies are subject to the recall. All Japan-made cars were supplied by Denso. CTS knew about this problem a long time ago (before it became public) and had already fixed it. The revised pedal assemblies have a white mark on the left side of the pedal shank. Dealers look for this mark when they inspect unsold cars. No mark, no sale. -- Tegger

Stay clear of all Toyotas, especially those already on the road WBMS ;) "Bob" <rgsros(a)notme.invalid> wrote in message news:hjukab$dbd$1(a)news.eternal-september.org... > Hello, > > Was thinking of buying a new Corolla, but... > > Question: is it true that those vehicles that have a J in front of their > VIN number, and presumably made in Japan, are not subject to the recall ? > > Their gas pedal assembly is of a different design, manufactured elsewhere, > or...? > > If you could put my mind at ease on this, and provide a few details, would > be most appreciative. > > Thanks, > Bob |
