In Pennsylvania consumers have a choice from whom they can buy the generated
electrically distributed by their local utility company. My utility company
there is Pennsylvania Power / Light company.

Recently I called to ask what I was being charged per KWH and was told 10c.
I asked how is your electricity generated. I was told primary power is by
Coal and Nuclear, secondary is Coal and fuel oil. Third stage generation
is fuel oil and NG. I asked about solar power. I was told no utility
company use solar or wind power. Solar and wind power is generally
produced by the user, or supplied to things like manufacturing, where houses
or housing complexes, from privately owned solar fields and wind farms, but
we are required to buy excess power from them. Does that happen often I
asked, not really, mostly when we buy excess power it is generated by
Co-Generation plants that burn waist materials like from old coal
reclamation projects. I asked can you tell me what you pay for the excess
power. I was told 6c per KH from coal Co-Generation plants and 34c from
solar fields and 29c from wind farms.

I asked, can you tell me what it costs PPL to generate electricity from your
nuclear plants? He said 6c and added our cost for coal is 1c, oil is 4c,
NG 3c each per KWH.

I now get my electricity from Virginia Power Company for 9c per KH.

I have a solar water heating system on the roof of my home in Key West. My
wife must do her part to save the planet. It cost me $30,000 to install
and I still needed to keep my NG system because there are times the solar
system can not produce enough hot water, even in Key West. I was around 75
when I had it installed. I'm 84 now and I figure if I live another
fifteen years or so I may save a few dollars ;)

You have no home in Key West.
