Had my first Colonoscopy today. They did an Endoscopy while they were at
it.

The worst part? The day before. You have to drink about a gallon of
Polyethelyne Glycol.

Whole bowel irrigation (polyethylene glycol with added electrolytes) is
used for bowel preparation before surgery or colonoscopy and drug
overdoses. It is sold under the brand names GoLYTELY, NuLytely, GlycoLax,
Fortrans, TriLyte, Colyte, Halflytely, MiraLAX, Softlax and MoviPrep.

DAMN! Every 15 minutes, here we go again!!!

And the stuff tastes NASTY! I mixed it with the provided Cherry flavoring;
I may never drink anything Cherry flavored again...

So, I get to the Hospital somewhat nerved up, but not bad because I broke
down and had one of my last remaining tobacco ciggies, and then they start
an IV.

Next thing I know, we're in the room, and they've given me the meds, but
they don't knock you out. As a matter of fact, you're on your side, with a
monitor in front of you so you can watch the whole thing.

There are two turns in the colon that are a little, er, *TIGHT* and when
they go around these it feels like cramps or like you're going to have a
BM; the nurse I had pressed a little on my abdomen and the discomfort
subsided.

All in all, it was pretty neat!

If anyone here is putting off having one done because of horror stories
they have heard about how bad it hurts, rest your fears. I have a very low
threshold for pain, and it was a piece of cake!

Now, when the hemherroids from all the 'bowel cleansing' die down...

Aw, c'mon youse guys!!!

I actually had put it off for about 6 years because of the stories I had
heard about it.

Then I saw a friend of mine. Over the past ten years he went from just
being Mike to looking like I was going to be reading his Obit any day now.

I saw him a month ago, and he looked 'brand new' again! I asked him what
was up. He went to a new Dr and the guy asked "Ever had a colonoscopy?"
Six Drs and not one had suggested it. They did it and found he had had
colon cancer, went in and removed the polyps, et, voila!

Just thought I'd help out if someone was like me and putting it off from
fear...

Now, about the bowel cleansing...
