I wonder how her statement "what happens to the least of us is the
definition of who we are" applies to her views on abortion?

In my town the Mayor voted to approve a rezoning ordinance that would
haved benefited him financially because he had stock in the company that
was trying to sell the property, and the sale was contingent on the
rezoning going through. Someone filed a complaint with the Fair
Political Practices Commission, and (three years later) they agreed that
he should have recused himself from the vote, but there is nothing they
actually do about it. The rezoning ordinance passed, and then the
residents rose up in revolt and reversed the rezoning in a referendum,
something that rarely succeeds.
