From: Jeff Strickland on 5 Sep 2009 15:47 I needed to mix some gear oil and limited slip additive so I could pump it into a differential. I had a nearly empty ATF bottle that served the purpose -- it fit the pump. Now I have a small amount of ATF that will have trace amounts of gear oil mixed in if I put the AFT into the empty gear oil bottle. The AFT is used for power steering fluid, there is not enough to use in the transmission of any of my cars. Do you suppose the gear oil will contaminate the ATF so badly that the ATF is unuseable any longer. There's not enough to worry about the cost of throwing it away, but I hate to toss stuff that can still be used. I suppose I have about a pint of ATF that has less than a teaspoon of gear oil residual in the bottle. What do you think, keep it for the power steering, or toss it?

Antirust for garden tools? It ought to be good for something. Lawnmower wheels?

If I'm wrong (which happens often) well a new chain and bar aren't more than half the cost of new chainsaw...... No more than I use my chainsaw I usually just use clean used motor oil, which is also a no no, and let what isn't used leak away.
