It is not an exaggeration to suggest that it would be cheaper to give every subsidized rider a free car. Passenger rail must pay for itself to be truly successful ... and, with some exceptions, it is nothing more than a grossly ineffective money pit, requiring huge initial cost and endless major government subsidies to survive. Freight railways are normally efficient and make sense. Passenger rail requiring massive subsidies makes no sense at all.. Hairy |
