I had the drivers front axle changed now get ABS code 36.

The online guides say that is right front or left read open circuit.
Is that the right code for my car 95 Camry or not?

I would think the left front was at issue.

also I cannot get the ABS computer to get in the WSS mode where it
flashes 4 times per second for the detailed sensor test. Is there
something different about 95 Camry that is different software or is it
because of the code 36 I can't get into the next mode.

When I clear the code, then start the car the code 36 gest set
immediately even before the car is moving.

I am trying to determine if there is a problem with the new axle or
with one of the sensors. I checked the tone axle, it DOES have a tone
wheel.

thanks

Code 36 is a pre-OBD II code, so I'm assuming that you have a 4 cylinder
Camry and not a V6, which was OBD II.

Code 36 is an open in the left front or right rear speed sensor, so the
first thing I would check is to see if the sensor is plugged in and whether
or not the wires are damaged. If the sensor is plugged in, check to make
sure the connector pins re damaged or corroded.

The code gets set even before the car is moving because the ABS computer
does a diagnostic check of the wheel speed sensors and ABS pump, and then
when the vehicle starts to move, it checks the signal from each sensor to
see if they match in frequency in the first few rotations of the axles.

Ray

thank you..

Yes the car is 4 cyl.

I want to confirm that code 36 on THIS CAR is left front or right rear
open circuit. This would make sense becasue it was the left front
that had the work done.

What was confusing me is many internet sites list code 36 as right
front or left rear open which makes no sense since the work was done
on left front.

So if code 36 FOR THIS CAR really does mean left front or right rear
open circuit, then I know exactly what the problem is, the sensor was
damged during the mechnical work.

Please confirm code 36 for this car is left front/right rear and NOT
right front/left rear.

THe car is 95 Camry XLE 4 cly.

thank you.

Here is a link for the braking system portion of the factory repair manual
for a 1994 Camry. http://www.turboninjas.com/camry/br.pdf

Sorry, I had the corners reversed. Page 95 shows code 36 as an open in the
right front or left rear speed sensor circuit. Page 119 shows how to
diagnose the circuit. Start by making sure that the sensors are plugged in.

The manual mentions When you are looking at the manual, it mentions TMM made
vehicles with Bosch ABS and TMC made vehicles with Denso ABS. Your vehicle
is TMM if the first character of the vehicle VIN is a number and the vehicle
was assembled in Georgetown, KY. Your vehicle is a TMC made vehicle if the
first character of the vehicle VIN is J.

Ray,
OK so for this car, 95 Camry 4 cyl, a code 36 = right front / left
rear...?

Is it possible the codes are confused somehow becasue it was the left
front that had work done...

Thats' why it is confusing, did the codes change between years or is
my problem REALLY right front/left rear?
