Well I finally got through the first tankful with the 2002 Corolla and it got
34 MPG in mixed city & hwy driving.

Not bad considering it has worn out poorly balanced tires and I havent
checked yet to see if it has iridium plugs, which improved the 93 by about 2
MPG. Oh, and we may still be using the winter ethanol in the gas here, which
may lower it by 1-2 MPG.

The car is like driving a rocket, I gotta lighten my foot off the gas. :-)

Worn or poorly balanced tires are not likely to have a measurable effect on
fuel economy, but tire inflation pressure may.

A lighter foot on the throttle could improve fuel economy anywhere from 1 to
5 mpg.

We had a nail in one of the old tires, the first week, and it was low. I
put air in it, not realizing the nail was there. A couple of days later, we
hit some small potholes and heard banging sounds. It dented the rim because
the tire was so low, and tossed a hubcap that I had to go retrieve from the
street. We got the tire patched, but that was 2 days ago.

I'm fine. I drive like a nun. Mostly carefully, but a little naughty at
times, when I feel all that power in the pedal. ;-)

Around here, when you see a Buick moving at warp speed, it seems like it is
being driven by a nun ;-)

Overall, 34MPG combined is not bad. I get this with a lot of my Toyotas
because the area I live in, there is very little reason to drive under
45MPH. THis seems to be the sweet spot, and ~70MPH on the highway. More
than that (or, surprisingly, LESS than that ) causes mileage figures to
decrease.

I have not noticed a difference with Iridium plugs, but I have noticed
keeping octane >91 has a positive effect.
